And it’s done! A date to skate has been set! As seen in the Sentinel Newspaper Friday 4 March 2016, the powers that be have put pen to paper and committed to a date. After months of hard work, creative collaboration and the joining together of many ideas, Rotary Hout Bay has managed to pull it off and the valley is set to become a 1600 sq metre skate facility where all members of the community are welcome.
The seed for the idea found soil in the head of Matthew Johnson, an experienced skater who has lived and skated in Hout Bay his whole life. After showing some street kids the basics of skateboarding and seeing the sheer delight on their faces, MJ too his idea to facebook, and when Rotary Hout Bay heeded his call to action the rest became skating history.
We are super proud to see the media covering this initiative. Watch this space for more information on how you can get involved!
